Savannah

Zuri is an example of a cat breed known as a Savannah.  This is a new breed that was created by breeding a Serval to a domestic cat.  A Serval is a wild cat that is similar in size to a bobcat.  The purpose of the breed is to provide people with a large cat that looks like a Serval in body composition and coat pattern but acts like a domestic cat.  This is a new breed that has only been developed since the mid 1990s.

Because this is a new breed and requires a Serval in its bloodline, there are extremely limited numbers of Savannahs available throughout the world.  They are beautiful cats that are considered to be excellent with other pets and children.  They are extremely intelligent and talkative.  They will grow to be larger than an average domestic cat.

This breed is currently recognized by TICA but not by CFA.  Different states and counties have laws regarding the ownership of these “hybrid” cats since some areas still consider these cats to be wildlife.  Williamson and Travis counties have passed Wild Animal Ordinances this year that exclude ownership of such cats by the general public.
