Dr. Percival adopted Ginger from a veterinarian in College Station, TX in early 1989.  We discovered we were true cat lovers and were building our feline family when we adopted her.  She has always been the big eater in the family (as you might be able to tell by looking at her).  In 1997, Ginger became very ill and we discovered she had hepatic lipidosis due to a tumor in her small intestine.  The tumor was a type of lymphoma, which is cancer, and we thought she would only have 3 to 6 months to live even with chemotherapy to treat the cancer.  We also found out she had diabetes, which would make chemotherapy even more difficult.  (Both of these diseases are explained further in our informative library).  We began chemotherapy with a tablet that she takes every day and currently the cancer is in remission.  We also control her diabetes with two injections of insulin every day.  So, after 3 years of a tablet and 2 insulin injections daily, Ginger is beating the odds and doing well.  She still weighs in at a robust 12 pounds.  Her love of food prompted us to name our cat food area after her.  Come visit Ginger’s Goodies for cat treats and quality cat foods.

Update:  Ginger died in 2002.  She was much loved but unfortunately lost her 4 year battle with cancer.  Even though she is greatly missed, she lived a wonderful life and is still honored by being a part of the Cat Hospital today.
